OPENING CREDITS

First-day, Tarsakh (The Claw of Storms) 11, 1479 DR, the Year of the Ageless One…

Two members leave the CFP, and two more sign up. Iris left without any farewell, apparently returning to her homeland of the Moonshae Islands. However, a mysterious eladrin by the name of Erevan joins the adventuring party. Erevan tells the CFP that another dragon remains and has a lair in the high reaches of the Graypeak Mountains. The dragon has also allied with a local orc tribe for added protection.

Amagar squabbles with the remaining members of the CFP over differences on the direction the party should take. The CFP head down river to investigate another kidnapping and Amagar stays behind. The kidnapper’s trail is cold and when the CFP return Amagar is no where to be found. Needing steel, the CFP approach a Paladin of Amaunator, Gavin of Waterdeep, and ask him to join the CFP. Gavin, seeing the nobleness of the CFP accepts.

Callaof Loudwater General approaches the CFP, asking for their help… “For a few tendays now, a tiefling named Narrows has shown up in my store and told me that if I don’t accept the ‘protection’ of the Lady of Shadows, something bad could happen, like my shop being burned down or my knees being broken. I haven’t buckled under his threats, but I’m afraid what might happen if I don’t. Raumandar, my stock boy, is a capable enough fighter, but he might not be able to protect me or the store all the time.”

Calla believes that Narrows will return this night and offers the CFP 500 gold dragons for their help in protecting her store and taking down the Lady’s Gang. The CFP head to Loudwater General to build fortifications and plan a strategy for defending the store. Gweena and Gavin head to the Loudwater Patrol to request a guard unit to patrol the main street in front of the store. Captain Harrowleaf seems unaware of the extent of the Lady’s Gang, but he provides the CFP with three patrolmen none the less.

With the fortifications in place, Narrows does in fact show during Moondark with the Lady’s Gang. The CFP defeat the gang, however Narrows escaped during the battle. The remaining two gang members surrender and have yet to be questioned.

The CFP continue their battle with the denizens of the Elemental Chaos. With most of the ice warriors firmly rooted on the second floor, they send down their icy attacks through the atrium while shardling minions use the frozen blue flame within the first and second floor fireplaces as portals into the tower. With the CFP taking more than their fair share of the licks, they finally battle their way to the second floor. The ice warriors soon fall, and the portals are destroyed.

The CFP take a long rest replenishing their resources, and through Amagar’s study of magic, discover a floating disk to the third floor. The CFP discover Draigdurroch’s extensive library, master quarters, and study on the third floor. With an extensive search they find Draigdurroch’s research notes on a new Dark Pact devoted to Asmodeus, fueled by the long dead deity Karsus. They also discover several of Draigdurroch’s ritual books.

Amagar discover’s another floating disk which takes the CFP to the Roof. On the roof the CFP find the Frost Gem marked with primordial scratchings, which has corrupted the gems magic. OPENING CREDITS

Afternoon, Second-day, Tarsakh (Claw of Storms) 2, 1479, the Year of the Ageless One…

After battling their way through an unnatural blizzard, and then being ambushed by frost goblins, the CFP arrive at Draigdurroch’s Tower.

Draigdurroch Tower is encased from top to bottom in a shimmering cocoon of pure ice. The sunlight is reflected in all directions by the angled planes of the frozen barrier, which climbs to a single peak in the air at the top of the tower and widens as it plunges to ground level. A palpable sensation of bitter cold emanates from the tower and its icy prison.

Through the imperfect mirror formed by the ice, you can see that the exterior stone of the tower has been carved into a massive series of sculptures and reliefs depicting various devils in flight. It is as if a huge swirling column of fiends has erupted within the earth and was being pulled into the heavens. Their mouths are open, though whether they are laughing or screaming is hard to tell.

A circular stone walkway winds around the tower’s base, and squat statues of leering devils of all sorts line both sides of this path. The cobblestones are frozen over and look slippery. The tower’s only obvious entrance is a single door at its base, but a foot-thick sheet of solid ice stands in your way.

OPENING CREDITS

First-day, Tarsakh (The Claw of Storms) 1, 1479 DR, the Year of the Ageless One…

Six days has passed since the CFP last made peace with the High Shaman Sancossug and the goblins of the Southwood. Thus far, Sancossug seems true to his word. No goblins have been sighted in the vale and nothing has mysteriously gone missing. However, there has been one rumor of a child kidnapping from a farm located near Secomber.

At first, the CFP were regarded as heroes, not having to buy a single draft, but having to recount their exploits to a countless number of patrons in the Tankard. Today, the CFP’s heroism seems almost non existent, albeit, the children a still ask to hear about the High Shaman Sancossug, but not often.

Two romantic interests have come to light over the past days. Megana Nistral, head of the Loudwater smithy is a brawny human female who is as broad as a dwarf. She enjoys drinking with the CFP in the evenings and is good company with her hearty laugh. The end of every night is much the same with Megana offering her skills as a blacksmith to Digi. Apparently she wants to forge him a great axe.

The other is Lady Moonfire, the town leader, a female half-elf who seems more interested in adventure than civic-duties. Lady Moonfire has been showing up at the Tankard every night, and eventually makes it over the CFPs table. With her elverquist in hand, she constantly prods Amagar about his past exploits. She also seems very interested in Amagar’s heritage, especially the demonic side.

Curuvar the Brazen seems no longer interested in the Skull Totem, and after hearing the CFP’s tale of the goblin shaman and his ritual, he replied with, “Goblins… what a dull race.”

Curuvar now has bigger fish to fry with the Gray Vale’s weather turning for the worst. The past 6 days have been miserable, with temperatures in the Gray Vale dropping to levels that would normally be typical during the Feast of the Moon. Things have become too dangerous for travelers, and to all indications, winter is not going to end. If that occurs, the ground will never thaw, thus no crop will be planted, putting the entire area’s food supply at risk.

There is precious little information in Loudwater to be had. However, some local woodsfolk report that the cold temperatures appear to be more pronounced in the area of the Dire Wood. Some claim it is the work of evil faeries, but rumors have it that the town’s leaders believe that a more likely source of the problem is Draigdurroch Tower.

Curuvar mentions Draigdurroch’s Tower and recounts its history…

About 30 years ago, a dwarf warlock named Draigdurroch came to the Gray Vale. Draigdurroch was part of a cabal of warlocks, and his particular research dealt with the creation of new types of eldritch pacts. He believed that the Dire Wood contained a particularly potent source of untapped energy—the remains of a failed deity. Thousands of years before the Spellplague, a Netherese city called Karse stood in the area, and the demigod Karsus was its patron. Karsus tried and failed to ascend to full godhood, dying in the process, and his city (along with the rest of the ancient Empire of Netheril) fell not long thereafter. Draigdurroch’s research suggested that the petrified remains of Karsus yet lie beneath the forest’s heart. Draigdurroch hoped that he could tap into the latent energy that Karsus had accumulated and use it to power his new pact. The dwarf warlock built a tower about a mile outside the Dire Wood and began his experiments in earnest.

Draigdurroch’s hunch turned out to be correct. A powerful nexus of magical energy is beneath the heart of the Dire Wood. However, the fey spirits who dwell within the Dire Wood have long been aware of how dangerous the remnants of Karsus could be if the demigod’s power fell into the wrong hands. They have appointed themselves as guardians to ensure that no one tampers with the failed deity’s resting place. When Draigdurroch’s efforts began to bear fruit and the dwarf warlock drew upon the latent echoes of Karsus’s power to form a dark pact, the fey approached him and warned him to cease his meddling. The warlock was confident in his powers and ignored the warning. For his temerity, the fey punished him. Draigdurroch was imprisoned within the Feywild and his tower was sealed in a block of magic ice as a warning to others. The fey set a powerful gemstone holding a spirit of winter to act as the keystone holding the icy barrier.

OPENING CREDITS

Eveningof Ches 19, 1479 DR, the Year of the Ageless One… The CFP are hot on the trail of the goblins, following the track back to their lair…

Last time, the CFP, a heroic adventuring party, forms at the Green Tankard Tavern. Goblins blow up Loudwater’s wall and enter the Southsquare, hacking and slashing innocents, trying to make their way to Garwan’s Curiosities. Even with CFP fighting valiantly, the goblins are able to break the window and take several items on display. After the battle, the CFP are given the “Goblin Scroll,” found by Sunsteen on the dead goblin hexer. The scroll reveals that the goblins were after the Horn Totem, which is apparently needed to raise the long dead “Ogre King.”

The CFP follow the tracks the goblins made through the Southwood, hoping it will bring them to their lair. The adventuring party have been travelling for the better part of the day and now, as darkness fall and in a snow storm, they try to make it to the elusive lair…
